More than half a thousand people participated in the sixth day of solidarity, which has had the collaboration of more than 50 local companies and entities

The Torres Family Foundation has celebrated this Saturday, November 30, in the winery of Pacs del Penedès, the sixth edition of the charity day ‘Get involved with La Marató’, which has collected 8,612 euros thanks to the contribution of more than 500 participants. As every year, the Foundation will double the amount collected and allocate a total of 17,224 euros to La Marató de TV3 for the research on minority diseases.

Mireia Torres, President of the Torres Family Foundation, says: “We want to thank all the participants for supporting this solidarity initiative, the USOC for their generous contribution and for the volunteers and collaborating companies who, with their invaluable and selfless collaboration, have contributed to the success of this day for the benefit of La Marató de TV3.”

The good weather, the incomparable environment and the cozy space of the visitor center, with the garden at the foot of the vineyard, have come together in the celebration of this new edition, which has been made possible by the collaboration of 50 volunteers and more than 50 companies and entities in the region. Throughout the day, participants enjoyed various gourmet activities, such as blind tapas, Iberian, cheese or sushi pairings, or popular food, all with great participation.

The novelty this year has been the activity ‘Make your own wine’ by the cellar Jean Leon, which has also been a success. Scheduled outdoor activities, such as the electric scooter route between the vineyards, as well as the various crafts and children’s activities to introduce the little ones to the world of vineyards, have exhausted the places.

The cultural and musical performances were also well received, starring the band of the M. Dolors Calvet Municipal School of Music, the Country Social Club Vilafranca, the Swing Vilafranca Group and the Rovell d’Ou children’s group, in addition of the performances of the Xicots and the Falcons of Vilafranca. The end of the day was a chocolate and a prize draw among all the participants.

Familia Torres Foundation donates 4,000 euros to be used to buy basic food. The Banc dels Aliments of Barcelona is a Foundation whose main objectives are to avoid waste by recovering surpluses of food suitable for human consumption and fighting against poverty, by delivering them to people in situations of food precariousness in our environment.

On this occasion, the campaign chosen was “More baby food”, an initiative aimed at buying baby food to meet the nutritional needs of 16,817 children, aged 3 to 15 years, and 2,984 newborns.

During this year 2019 we have also collaborated in the “No child without moustache” milk collection campaign organized by the banking entity La Caixa for the benefit of Banc dels Aliments.

The ceremony, held on Monday, November 11th at the headquarters of the Banc dels Aliments Foundation, was attended by Marta Torres Rosselló, vice president of the Torres Family Foundation and Roser Brutau i Basté, president of the Banc dels Aliments Foundation of Barcelona.

The Banc dels Aliments does not distribute food directly to users, but provides food to the network of social initiative entities that distributes them to people in vulnerable situations.

Familia Torres Foundation also collaborates annually with the Ressò – Rebost Solidari Association of Vilafranca del Penedès, beneficiary of Banc dels Aliments.

With this type of actions, in addition to collaborating with the most needy society, we are contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions since, in the production of food, in its transformation, in its transport and commercialization, resources and energy are used, which It represents an environmental impact that is measured in tons of CO2 equivalent. If food is wasted, it is wasted energy. Therefore, recovering them for people’s food means that this energy is not wasted, which represents a saving of environmental impact and a measure to fight against climate change.

The Familia Torres Foundation celebrates on Saturday, November 30, the sixth day edition of solidarity for the benefit of La Marató de TV3. The activities will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Family Torres visitor center in Pacs del Penedès, and will consist of tastings and pairing, children’s activities and musical, castellers and falcons. As a novelty, attendees can make their own wine from different varieties grown in the vineyards of Jean Leon, as well as taste, once again, cheese, Iberian or Sushi pairings, or participate in a blind tapas, a workshop to experiment with the tastes and feelings with the eyes covered.

The Xicots and Falcons de Vilafranca will be the ones that will kick off this solidarity day, followed by a performance by Country Social Club Vilafranca. There will also be a popular lunch and a chocolate, as well as different activities for children so that the youngest discover and understand the world of the vineyard, without forgetting the opportunity to stroll among vineyards on an electric skateboard.

The music will be performed by the band of the Municipal Music School M. Dolors Calvet, the Swing Vilafranca Group and the children’s group Rovell d’Ou. The day will end with a closing draw with many prizes at stake.

The celebration of this solidarity day, under the motto “Get involved with La Marató”, is possible thanks to the collaboration of more than 50 companies and entities in the region and the participation of around thirty volunteers. All the money collected will be allocated entirely to the La Marató de TV3, destined this year to minority illnesses.

The previous edition, get involved with La Marató of the Fundación Familia Torres, brought together more than 500 people and allocated a total of 10,300 euros to the research of cancer, the first cause of death among men and the second among women in Catalonia.

Marimar Torres along with his daughter Cristina, have received the Castellers de Vilafranca this week in their winery in California, as part of the tour that the colla castellera is doing along the west coast of the United States within the acts of San Francisco Catalan Week.

After visiting the winery, built in 1992 in the style of a Catalan farmhouse, the Castellers de Vilafranca have made a memorable performance, downloading a 4d8, the first eight-story human castle they did in California. They have also completed a Td7, a 3d7 and a fan of five.

The Marimar Estate winery is located in Sonoma County, north of San Francisco and 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean, a prime location for wine growing.

The Castellers de Vilafranca, who have moved a delegation of 180 people to California, have the support of the Familia Torres Foundation. In addition to projects aimed at children, the foundation also includes among its lines of action, the development of cultural programs with local institutions.

Familia Torres has recently joined LEUCO’s as a point of sale, a solidarity initiative to raise money for childhood cancer research.

Ingrid was diagnosed with leukaemia in July 2018, with 10 years. Bad leukocytes had occupied her “blood factory” in the bone marrow. The only way to throw them out and have good white blood cells back was to undergo a long chemotherapy treatment. She spent the first month in a room on the 8th floor of Sant Joan de Déu, receiving chemotherapy and with restricted visits. Shortly after, she had the idea to create this project. Thinking about her illness, she created the LEUCO’S, small coloured leukocytes, full of hope.

LEUCO’s are coloured keychains and needles inspired by blood cells and handmade by Ingrid and her family and friends, which gives them emotional value.

The Familia Torres Foundation collaborates with the CardioDreams Foundation in its charity dinner to improve the cardiovascular health of people with a lack of resources.

The CardioDreams Foundation held its Annual Charity Dinner on June 13th to raise funds to fund heart operations for patients without resources from developing countries, promote projects to provide cardiovascular health care for women and train professionals in the field of cardiac surgery.

The event took place at La Llotja de Mar in Barcelona and dinner was served by Nando Jubany. The more than 200 attendees, among whom were personalities such as Ramon Pellicer, Manel Rodriguez, Magda Oranich, Nandu Jubany, Carles Gaig, or lama Thubten Wangchen, representative of Tibet in Spain, were able to taste Jean Leon 3055 wines next to the menu. The Familia Torres Foundation presents its Annual Report 2018, in which it details the actions carried out through its five areas of action: children’s aid; women and families; groups in needs and at risk of social exclusion; the promotion of culture and humanitarian aid in natural disasters.

The publication of the Annual Report of the Familia Torres Foundation coincides with the launch of the new website, which aims to give visibility to the projects in which the entity collaborates and provide information on the Foundation (mission, trustees, economic memory, annual report, etc.). With a fresh and attractive design and simple navigation, the web is divided into six sections: About us, Projects, News, Present your project, Transparency and Volunteering.

Created in 1986, the Foundation has collaborated in more than 400 projects at local, national and international level, with actions in 12 different countries such as Cameroon, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Philippines and Mexico, for example. All of the Foundation’s income is private and complies with the contributions made by the different companies integrated in Familia Torres and the members of the family, individually.

Four years after Miguel A. Torres laid the first stone on December 6, the new shelter was inaugurated for 64 girls from the Casa Hogar Alegría NGO, which is located in Guadalajara, Mexico, and in which the Torres Family Foundation has collaborated.

Mireia Torres, president of the Foundation, attended the inauguration, which was chaired by Carmen Villarreal and Humberto Murrieta, representatives of Casa Hogar Alegría. Also in attendance were members of Bodegas La Negrita, distributor and partner of the Torres Family in Mexico – Rodolfo González, Gabriela Ramírez, Ceci Díaz de Leon, Eduardo Rodríguez and Jaime Costa – as well as representatives from the other benefactor foundations – Maestro Cares Foundation, the Telmex Foundation – Telcel, Corporativa de Fundaciones, Casa San Matías, Acesta and Construlita Luminaire.

Casa Hogar Alegría is a non-profit making association founded by three friends in 1997, aware of the huge needs of the childhood population, in particular vulnerable girls on the streets of Mexico. Its purpose is to transform the lives of girls in vulnerable situations who lack family care and to provide them with comprehensive training to ensure their social and workplace integration in the future. They started by renting a house where 8 girls lived and today they have two offices in Toluca, with capacity to serve 120 girls and young women, and another in Tlajomulco, Jalisco, which serves 64 girls and young women, in addition to the newly opened house in Guadalajara.

Since its creation in 1986, the Torres Family Foundation has cooperated with numerous social projects in countries around the world. Ever since the year 2000, it has been particularly focusing on projects to help children.
